About Itanagar

Sprawling
over an area of 2500 acres and perched atop low flat hills, Itanagar is
gifted with a salubrious climate and thus makes an idyllic hill resort.
Itanagar is the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh and is located at an
elevation of 350 metres above mean sea level. Tibetan influence can well be
observed all around the place. The residents of the city, attired in
colourful traditional robes, make a wonderful sight as one passes through
the by-lanes of Itanagar. The virginal beauty of the place and the age-old
heritage of the tribal communities attract myriad of tourists and visitors
from far and wide. Itanagar provides everything from sightseeing to
adventure sports.
Climate
Itanagar has a subtropical and alpine climate. The place does not
experience extremes of temperatures and remains pleasant throughout the
year. July to September is the period of monsoons. The average annual
rainfall of the place records 266 cm. The best time to visit is from October
to March.
Major Attractions
» The Ita Fort - The fort is a 14th-century
miracle and the city derives its name from the very historical fort. The
fort is a splendid sight to behold. As one looks on, a feeling of nostalgia
is certain to engulf.
» The Buddha Vihar - This yellow-roofed structure
is a Buddhist shrine and is the landmark of the city of Itanagar. Set amidst
hills and lush greenery the shrine is a must-visit site for the tourists.
» The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum - The
museum exhibits archaeological findings of the historic sites around
Itanagar and the traditional items of the tribal communities in the area.
There are wood carvings, ceremonial objects, weapons, wooden implements,
traditional textiles etc.
» The Ganga Lake or the Gyakar Sinyi - It is a
place for the picnickers, holiday-makers and nature-worshippers. The place
provides magnificent view of the lush greenery that surrounds the lake. It's
a never-to-be-missed site.
» The Itanagar Sanctuary and the Polo Park - The
sanctuary and the park see a large number of biologists, tourists and
visitors from all around. Exotic varieties of flora and fauna can be
witnessed here.
Shopping
The popular shopping destination is the Handicrafts Centre of Itanagar. One
can buy bamboo and cane work, wood carvings, wall hangers, traditional
attires, carpets, shawls etc. The tribal communities of the area excel in
creating innovative handicrafts that prove to be the best buys of one and
all.

The city provides various accommodation options to cater to the needs of
the tourists. There are Government approved hotels as well. Hotel Donyi Polo
Ashok is a Government approved hotel. The hotel is provided with all the
basic amenities. Hotel Arun Subansiri, Circuit House and Hotel Ita Fort are
