» Orissa State Museum - The museum
houses a collection of sculptures, coins, copper plates, stone
inscriptions, lithic and bronze age tools. Rare manuscripts written on
palm trees, musical instruments and a gallery of Epigraphy is preserved
there. The Handicraft museum situated within also has a collection of
patta paintings,toys and silver filigree works. The tribal museum gives
a beautiful insight of the lives of the tribal peoples of Orissa.
» Udaygiri and Khandagiri - These
twin hills situated in Bhubaneswar have some of the ancient caves to its
credit. Khandagiri which means "broken hill" and Udaygiri the "hill
of the sunrise"serve as the site of the Jain Monastery which was
carved in the shape of chambers in the face of the hill. The twin hills
contain varieties of rock-cut caves dating back to the 2nd century BC,
some of which have beautiful carvings. The Rani Gumpha or Queen's Cave
is one of the largest and double-storied embellishment with beautiful
carvings.
Shopping
The state is famous for the silver filigree work done around the statae
to the wall hangings from Pipli, from the intricate paintings and
glorious hand woven fabrics from Sambalpur. The places where these
mementos can be bought are Ekmara hut, Utkalika,and at Sudharshan art
and craft.
