About Puri Beach

The
Puri beach has been fascinating holiday makers and tourists for ages on
account of its sensuous silvery sands, scenic spots and the quaint precinct.
The local fishermen with their catamarans and exceptional cane hats are a
wonderful sight to the onlookers. Puri is the abode of Lord Jagannath and is
held in high esteem by the devotees and worshippers who pour into the city
in large numbers. The Puri waters are considered very sacred and it is a
firm belief among the visitors that taking a holy dip into the waters is
sure to wash away one's sins. Puri has a moderate climate and can be visited
throughout the year.

» The Puri Temple- Built in the 12th century, the
Puri Temple stands in dedication to Lord Jagannath, the presiding deity of
the place. During the months of June and July, the place is a riot of
rituals on the occasion of the Rathyatra.
» The Puri Beach Festival- The Puri Beach Festival
is another popular event of the beach. One can gain an insight into the
traditional dance forms, music and other cultural activities of the place.
It's no less than an entertainment explosion.
» The Gundicha Temple - The Gundicha Temple is
another attraction around the place. The temple is dedicated to Gundicha,
Lord Jagannath's aunt. Belief exists that Lord Jagannath stays here for nine
days during the famous festival of Rathyatra.
» The Child Krishna Temple - Located at the
Indradyamuna Tank is the famous temple of Child Krishna. There is also a
shrine here dedicated to king Indradyamuna of Orissa. The Indradyamuna tank
is a sacred site in the city.

The Atharnala Bridge
Built in the 13th century over the Mandupur stream, the Atharnala Bridge is
a wonderful piece of architecture. The bridge stands at the entrance of the
town of Puri.
» The Chilka Lake- Chilka Lake is the largest fresh
water inland lake in Asia and is a popular name among tourists and
honeymooners. Spreading over an area of 1100 sq km, the lake has a number of
small islands called the Breakfast Islands by the locals. Boating, fishing
and view of dolphins add much to everyone's charm.
