
The
tiny state is the second smallest state in the country which was acceded to
the Indian union in 1949. Majority of the peoples speak Bengali but Tripura
is also the home to 19 different tribes including the Manipuries who live in
complete harmony with each other.The Tribals with a rich culture belongs to
the Reang, Chakma, Halam and Usai communities who live in houses called
Tong.
Located in the North Eastern Part of India having an area of 10,500 sq km
it shares its border with Assam, Mizoram and Bangladesh. The state shrouded
in mystery was thought to be ruled by the Manikya Dynasty until taken over
by the British officials in the 19 th century. Mark by a rich diversity of
natural resourses the place gives a view of a hilly terrain, hills and
forests.
Climate
Tripura receives an average rainfall of about 2100 mm and the climate is
generally moderate. The small state offers an atmosphere free from polution
and is very much nature friendly.
Major Attractions
» Ujjayanta Palace - The royal palace built by
Maharaja Radhakishore Manaikya covers an area of one sq km set within a
large garden. The palace is beautifully decorated with fountains and
magnificent tiles adorned with curved wooden ceiling along with crafted
doors.
» Neermahal - The water palace was built in the
year 1930 by the Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as his summer resort.
The palace combines the architectural style of the Hindus with the design of
the Muslims. The Mahal is located to the center of a lake stretching 5.3 sq
km. The Mansion reflects the history and the glory of the past. Around the
palace are seen well laid garden lit up with lightning. Large number of
migratory birds flock to the Rudra Sagar Lake adjoining the palace.
» Kamala Sagar Kali Temple - Maharaja Dhanya
Manikya constructed the Kali Temple atop a hill in the 15th century. The
temple is situated close to the Bangladesh border and to the front side of
the temple is a lake that enhances its beauty to the most.
» Sundari Temple -

The
temple which lies 55 km from Agartala situated in Udaipur is regarded as one
of the 51 pithas of the Hindu pilgrimage. The temple is like a square sactum
created under the supervision of Maharaj Dhyan Manikya in the year 1501. A
marvellous pristine beauty is added by the lake built in the front of the
temple. Thronged by thousand of devotees, the temple is spaceless during the
festival periods specially the Diwali celebrations.
» Pilak - The place of Pilak has gained importance
due to its archeological remains of nine centuries old. The place located at
a distance of 100km from Agartala contains a number of terracotta plagues.
The stone images and stupa of Avolokiteswara, Narasimha of the Buddhist cult
have been found here dating back to the Buddhist period.
» Jampui Hills - The forest of Jampui Hill is a
permanent place of the springs. Situated at a height of 3000ft above sea
level the hill forest consists of a cluster of tribal villages. The forest
range is the home to the Lushai and the Reang tribal community. The wooden
houses gives a unique charm of touring these places. October experiences the
celeberation of the Jampui Orange festival.
Shopping
Exqisite and beautiful bamboo cane and wooden handicrafts are hand made in
the region. Apart from it cotton silk, polyester are famous. Visitors can
watch the beautiful hands of the craftman at work . Shopping can be done at
Purbasha and any of the Handloom and Handicrafts Sales emporium in any of
the Places including Agartala.
