I have gone to Agra for my business purpose, I was able to finish up my work little before, and therefore complete 2 days were in my hand. My hotel in charge told me about a fine excursion that can be made from Agra to Gwalior. What a journey it was- from Agra I progressed towards Gwalior as it lies at a distance of 121 km away from the Agra City. I took a tourist coach for my journey, through out the way the guide who was arranged by the Agra Tourist Department recounted arena from history which are related to Gwalior. I got a proper notion of how this historical city has been changed towards a neoteric city full of life and activity.
Our bus took us to Gwalior Fort that was the first place I visited, erected as a colossus fort towering over the entire city. It is prevalently recognized as the Gibraltar of India. The guide told us that the great Mughal Emperor Babur explicates the fort as " the pearl in the necklace of the forts of Hind".
Our next destination was the mausoleum of the 16th century Sufi saint Ghous Mohammed and the tomb of Mian Tansen, the great singer in the court of Emperor Akbar, the places were situated in the eastern part of the city. The sights were looking so real that it seemed as if I have reached in an era of glorious past of Gwalior Empire. The tomb of Tansen was giving the ambience of the royal court and the whole environ could hear his harmonious tunes played back by the air around.
I was wonder struck by the architecture splendor of the Jai Vilas Palace. It is entirely comparable to the distinguished Palace of Versailles in France. The architecture here is a twisted amalgamation of Tuscan, Italian and Corinthian styles.
My visit to Gwalior City was just a beautiful experience, the wonderful sights and visions that I enjoyed at this great city will be preserve for ever in my heart. I can only say that the time-honored souvenir of the bygone era is scrupulously conserved in the heart of Gwalior City giving an amalgamation of tradition and modernity.
