Craft Villages in India

India has no dearth of places tha t are exclusively the hub of crafts. Such places prove to be an asset for the craft traditions of India.

Shilparamam
This craft village of Hyderabad is spread over 50 acres of land. The entire setting has been done keeping in mind the rural ambiance. The village was conceptualized with an idea to create an environment for the preservation of the traditional crafts.

Annual Festivals in Shilparamam
Every year in March festivals of art and craft are held in Shilparamam where artisans from all over the country are invited. These festivals prove to be a great platform for the artisans and buyers. These festivals also educate the masses about the rich cultural heritage of India. Cultural activities are also organised during the ten days Dussehra festival in October and at the time of Sankrant festival. Camps and workshops are also held for providing any sort of technical guidance to the craftsmen.

Amphitheater is also a major attraction of Shilparamam. Here both rural and urban artists meet and interact through seminars, workshops and festivals. Renowned artists from all field come down to Shilparamam from all over the country to give their best of performances. Folk and tribal art are given special importance.

Surajkund Crafts Mela
The village of Surajkund lies in the state of Haryana. The village has been able to preserve the crafts tradition of India. Craftsmen from all over the country assemble here during the annual fair that is called as Surajkund Crafts Mela. The mela proves to be a great platform for the craftsmen to bring their art in the eye of the common masses. The mela attracts immense visitors. Dilli Haat
The whole project of Dilli Haat was started with a view to provide an impetus to the village artisans and craftsmen who often remain under the confines of the villages where they stay. Here in Dilli Haat an encouragement is provided to these artists as they with their articles come face to face with the buyers not only from India but also from various parts of the world. There are around 62 stalls here in Dilli Haat that exclusively sell handicrafts of varied kinds from all over the country. One can enjoy the art and craft, food and other cultural activities here. Dilli Haat is also a favourite venue for various food festivals.
