Day 1 Delhi, India
Check-in to your choice of hotel, centrally-located to make the most of your stay in Delhi.
Day 2 Explore Delhi
Start the day with a rickshaw ride through Old Delhi. You will see the Red Fort, the most opulent Palace of the Mughal Empire, and Chandni Chowk, the bustling and colorful market of the old city. A memorable stop is made at Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. After lunch on your own, the tour continues through New Delhi, designed and built by the British in the 1920's, with palatial-sized buildings set amid broad tree-lined avenues punctuated by Mughal style gardens. Begin at Delhi's main avenue, the Rajpath, and see the India Gate and the imposing Presidential Palace before stopping to visit Qutab Minar and Emperor Humayun's Tomb.
Day 3 Delhi / Travel to Agra
After arriving in Agra, you'll head directly to the Taj Mahalc for a first look at this beautiful structure, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. At the Agra Fort you'll see the fabulous courtyards, fountains, and gates of this hilltop citadel. Driving through the city, you'll be fascinated by markets and other scenes of the hustle and bustle of everyday India. Enjoy a tranquil overnight in your choice of hotel.
Day 4 Travel to Jaipur
Journey into the colorful Rajasthani countryside to the perfectly preserved, red sandstone "ghost town," Fatehpur Sikri. Built in the 16th century by Emperor Akbar, this veritable fairy tale city and its "ruins" are still in pristine condition, making it easy to imagine the opulence of long-ago court life. Arrive Jaipur in the early evening and check-in to your choice of hotel.
Day 5 Explore Jaipur
Enter through the imposing gates of the Amber Palace atop an elephant and tour this grand monument, including its lavish courtyards, beautifully decorated halls and a lovely Chamber of Mirrors. Returning to the city, you'll visit the Palace Museum, with its fabulous displays of miniature paintings and traditional Rajasthani royal costumes, and the lovely Palace of the Winds. You'll also see Jantar Mantar, an accurate observatory built in 1726. Don't miss this opportunity to do some shopping in Jaipur - famous for its brightly embroidered fabrics, carved wooden boxes and finely-crafted jewelry.
Day 6 Return to Delhi
Following breakfast, you'll drive back to Delhi. The afternoon is free for you to explore the city on your own. Delhi is famous for its great shopping - be sure and check out the miniature paintings, silks, handicrafts and hand-made carpets.
