Ladakh Lakes and Passes
High Altitude Lakes Tour,
Duration: 10 Nights / 11 Days
“ The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step”… so
aptly put forth by Lao Tzu. Thus began our journey to the Road Less
Traveled with our 55 minutes flight to Leh, touring beautiful monasteries,
monastic life, crossing high passes, enjoy the spectacular landscape,
amazingly beautiful lakes.
Day 01.
As you disembark from the aircraft after one of the most spectacular
flight, the crisp air hitting your nostril breath a new high to
your life. On arrival you will be transferred to the hotel. Breakfast
and briefing later you will advised rest for the first half of the
day. Post lunch visit market for an orientation drive. Overnight
in Ladakh Sarai.
Day 02.
After breakfast we will visit the Spituk monastery. Enjoy your first
encounter with the beautiful Buddhist monastery and understand “
the Buddhist life”. Buddhism in this part of the
world is also part of the social life. We live religion in this
part of the world. Also visit the “ Much famed Kali Temple”
also known as the Temple of Palden Lhamo( by Buddhist). You will
see Buddhist as well Hindus( lndian army) worshipping there. Return
to hotel for lunch. Post lunch we will visit the market and Shanti
stupa( Japanese peace Pagoda) on the nearby Hillock of Leh town.
We will visit Shanti stupa at sunset. Enjoy the scintillating view
of the Leh town, upper Leh towards khardunglha and the part of upper
Indus valley. Light at sunset or sunrise is just perfect for perfect
pictures with the Himalayan mountain ranges at the back ground.
Evening dinner at hotel.
Day 03.
Post breakfast we will today visit Ladakh’s most famous and biggest monastic centre for “ Drukpa Kargyu lineage”( one of the important sect of Tibetan Buddhist). From Hemis we will drive back towards Thiksey. Thiksey is famous for its big Maitreya Statue( Maitreya, is considered as future Buddha by the Buddhist believer). Also famous for its beautiful architecture, from Thiksey you can enjoy fantastic view of the surrounding mountain ranges and the Indus valley. On our way back to the hotel for lunch, we will visit the Sindhu Ghat. Sindhu- Indus-Singhe Khabab( in Tibetan) is source mother of the great Indus valley civilization. The river originates from Mount Kailash in Tibet is revered by the Sindhis, Buddhist and Hindus equally.
Lunch at hotel.Evening walk in the Ayu village and know the culture and life of Ladakhi villager. Back to the hotel in time for dinner and drinks.
Day 04.
Post breakfast our sojourn towards western Ladakh. Our trip will be a combination of drive and a rafting trip on the river Indus. At the confluence of mighty Zanksar river with Indus, our scenic float rafting trip end. We will than drive straight to our camp at Ulleytokpo after a brief stop for tea and snack. Lunch at West Ladakh Camps and Resorts. A relaxed evening at the camp.
Day 05.
Today we drive to Lamayuru. Photo opportunity at Moonscape like landscape. Later visit the Gonpa of Lamayuru. On our way back to the camp for hot lunch. Post lunch we will either walk to the beautiful Mangyu village across the Indus or visit the Ridzong monastery.
Day 06.
Drive back to Leh via Alchi. Alchi is one of the most beautiful and famous monastery in Ladakh for its frescos dating to 11th Century. Hot Lunch at Ladakh Sarai. Evening walk in the Leh market at leisure.
Day 07.
After breakfast we will embark on our drive to the turquoise colored lake of Pangong lake, half of which lies in China. At a distance of 155 kilometres we will drive over the 17000 ft Changlha pass. After visit to the beautiful photogenic lake we will return back to our camp for the overnight stay.
Day 08.
We will start the day early towards another beautiful lake which is at an altitude of 4500 metres. Tsomoriri lake, is a delight to see, this brackish lake changes colored many times day and also breeding ground for some of the most endangered species of birds like brahmini duck and ruddy shelduck. Overnight in Camp.
Day 09.
An early start to the day. You will drive through another lake called Tsokar and than come on the Leh –Manali highway. Crossing few passes passes, you will arrive in Sarchu. Today’s drive could partly be compared to drive around grand canyon. Its can easily be one of the most beautiful drive you would have undertaken so far. Overnight in camp.
Day 10.
An early starts to the day, after crossing few more passes we will drive past the Keylong and Lahaul valley and to the Rothang pass and than to the pine forested Manali. After long day of drive we arrive to the comfort of our hotel in Manali.
Day 11.
Evening board overnight Volvo/Sleeper bus to Delhi.
End of Trip.
