The
enchanting state of Goa was a Portuguese colony till 1962, hence, it is well
known for its Indo-Portuguese culture and architecture. Goa's beaches
reflect its colourful picture of history from the time of the hippies. The
state of seven rivers and estuaries, coloured green with hills and lush
green vegetation stretches to a total coastline of 125 km beach land divided
in parts along the Arabian sea.
The beaches of Goa are fun filled and popular than the other beaches in
India. The sea foods, water sports, glittering sand in the sunlight, shadows
from the coconut and the palm trees, fishing extravaganza, music and
nightlife, dance and merry making around bon -fires - all give Goa a special
place in the heart of the tourists coming to view its haven of attractions.
From an unbroken crescent of sun heated sand, begins the twin beaches of
Candolim and Calangute north of Panaji. Calangute had been a tourist's
hotshot since the 60's and referred to as the Queen of Goa. Then comes the
refreshing and relaxed Baga beach while the southern side of Goa preserves
the innocent looking fresh Colva and the Benaulim beaches. In addition are
found the Vagator with the Chapora beaches which are worth visiting.

» Anjuna beach - The Anjuna Beach is one of the
major beach attraction of Goa full of the painted palm trees under which is
held the long parties generally covering the whole night. A very mesmerising
view of the Chapora Fort and the Vagator can be had from the banks of the
Anjuna beach. The beach is frequented from 1970 and till now has attracted
millions of travellers ranging from the honey mooners to the leisure lovers.
Different water sports are available that includes water skiing, wind
surfing, yachting and rafting along the beach waters of the Arabian sea.
» Vagator Beach - The Vagator beach is covered with soft white
coloured sands, black lava rocks enticed by the swinging coconut trees and
the palms in the lush green landscape. It is the place where nature abounds
in its own music and the sea can be seen changing colours from aquamarine to
emerald green. The beach being close to the fishing village of Vagator is
rich with its rural life and. The sandy beach is a dream come true for the
travellers who would like to walk the banks of the beach bare footed
watching the silvery shimmering of the sea waves hitting the shores.
» Calangute Beach - The Calangute Beach is the
busiest beach in Goa commonly known as the Queen of the beaches. It got its
name from koli-guti meaning land of the fisherman. The beach is today a
wonder in terms of beach pleasure and natural scenery around. It stretches
about four miles all along the coast and is filled with palm trees with
pristine beauty coloured with the golden sand. The sight of fisherman
hauling their nets in the sea to catch fishes for selling in the evening
markets or little fishing hooks tack under bamboo sun shakes are
mesmerising.
