About Matheran

Nestled
in the Shayadri hill ranges, Matheran is not far from Mumbai. The little
hill station was discovered by an Englishman Hugh Mallet in the year 1950.
Since then Matheran has well preserved its natural beauty to bedazzle its
visitors. No motor vehicles are allowed in Matheran and so the environs are
spick and spawn. The landscapes are untouched and pristine. The paths are
shady and thickly wooded and stretch to infinite lengths. The only mode of
transports are hand-pulled rickshaws and horses. On account of its proximity
to the city of Mumbai, Matheran has gained utmost popularity among the
tourists and visitors. The hill stations provides exquisite views of the
western Ghats and the lush plains. The hill station has a population of
5,500. Marathi, Hindi and English are the mostly spoken languages.
Climate
Matheran does not face extremes of temperature and enjoys a pleasant
climate. During the summers the maximum temperature is 32 degrees centigrade
and during the winters the temperatures goes down to 16 degrees centigrade.
The annual rainfall records 524 cm. October to May is the best time to visit
Matheran.
Major Attractions
» King George Point - King Charlotte Point
provides you with splendid view of the waterfall that is formed as the
Charlotte Lake overflows. One can, as well, get to the mouth of the
waterfall and enjoy the scenic beauty and the intoxicating surroundings.
» Charlotte Lake - The Charlotte Lake is the only
source of water to Matheran. The lake is a must-visit for all the visitors
and holiday-makers as it makes a beautiful sight meandering down the hills.
The lake lies at a distance of 1 km from the main market.
» Louisa Point - Louisa Point is yet another
attraction for the tourists. It gives a close and frontal view of the
waterfall seen from the King George Point.
» Echo Point - The Echo Point is another key attraction of
Matheran. It provides its visitors with a panoramic view of the Shayadri
ranges and offers you the enjoyment of echo.
Shopping -
Though Matheran does not have a shopping complex, it does have shops and
stalls. The shops sell items like leather bags, leather belts, leather shoes
and glass-birds. Chikkis, the popular sweetmeat of the place, can be bought
here. And of course, Matheran is very famous for its Kolhapuri Chappals.

Richie Rich is a 3-star hotel and provides with amenities like A/C super
